General comments
Ubiquitous resident.

One of the most numerically abundant moths at light traps in our area overall. The adult comes in a banded and an unbanded form and both exhibit a range of colour, from very pale through reddish to very dark. The original description of the moth by Linnaeus was made from the banded form, and so that is the 'typical' Riband Wave; forms that lack the dark band are referable to ab. remutata Linnaeus. Various attempts have been made at assessing the percentages of typical and banded forms in our area, but the gathering of results is problematic - especially over any significant time period.
