Reference has already been made under the heading of Red-green carpet to early misidentified records of Autumn Green Carpet from the Sandridge area (Griffith, 1888) and from Haileybury School (Bowyer, 1888). Others from the era include within two or three miles of St Albans Town Hall and the area east of Bamville Wood Farm, near Harpenden Common (Gibbs, 1889). Foster (1916) had it as 'Not uncommon at light' [in north Hertfordshire] and in his 1937 list he adds Tring, Hitchin, East Barnet, Bricket Wood, Wilstone, Watford, Cheshunt, Berkhamsted, Broxbourne, Hoddesdon and Harpenden. For the latter locality, Riley (1999) states that there were three in the traps during the 1930s, one in 1949 and one in 1967, with none since that last date. Hodgson (1939) notes it as 'scarce at light at High Scrubs (near Berkhamsted)'. This wood lies south of Tring. The mapped old records show a strong association with some of the county's older woodland complexes, especially the Broxbourne Woods complex.
