General comments:
Widespread but local resident in Hertfordshire: Extinct in Middlesex.

The foodplant is Red Bartsia (Odontites verna) which is frequent in ruderal habitats, such as field edges, in many parts of Hertfordshire although it does not appear to be everywhere one looks; the distribution pattern of the moth reflects this. Numerically, it seems to be quite uncommon with us, though a certain reluctance to visit light traps might account for this - at least in part. The only Middlesex record is that from Hillingdon in 1989. Given the amount of potentially suitable habitat in the county this seems very surprising.
