General comments:
Widespread resident.

One of only two or three British pugs with a white spot (scale tuft) on the scutellum (the very last bit of the thorax that overhangs the abdomen). Recorded in 1890 in Hertfordshire then re-found in 2003 after a gap of 113 years. This must surely reflect inadequate recording effort? The moth is currently "everywhere" and larvae have been found on Angelica on several occasions. A goodly proportion of presumed melanic Common Pugs prove on dissection to be this species, but not all examples have been dissected, so it is not possible to give percentages with absolute certainty.
