General comments:
Widespread resident, potentially ubiquitous.

With practice, Grey Pugs can often be recognised without critical examination, though the latter is always desirable for confirmation. The unmarked melanic form obscurissima Prout accounts for in the order of 80 per cent of Hertfordshire examples seen - perhaps more in Middlesex. There is a small second generation of adults in Europe and that is just about discernible in our area, though is a very recent phenomenon.
