Bordered Beauty
Epione repandaria

(Hufnagel, 1767) 1907 / 70.227

General comments:
Very local resident.

Damp woodland, with a high proportion of sallow and areas of rank vegetation is the ideal site for the Bordered Beauty, which appears to have vanished from many of its recorded sites in the area. The causes of the decline are not clear, but are almost certainly linked to habitat loss, both through development and as a result of the drastically reduced 'water table'. On rare occasions, individual adult moths turn up in light traps at theoretically unsuitable sites, so that some of the map dots might reflect vagrancy rather than residency.
