=Ectropis bistortata

General comments:
Widespread resident.

Although clearly avoiding the urban part of Middlesex, this is a widespread and common species with us. Older texts separate this species (calling it Ectropis bistortata) from the "Small Engrailed" (using the name Ectropis crepuscularia). Current thinking, backed up by DNA bar-coding, is that the two species are identical; the correct name (following the rules of the International Committee on Zoological Nomenclature), is crepuscularia.
