General comments:
Extremely local resident. Declining. Species of Conservation Concern.

This moth was regarded as being `stable` at the end of 2006, but since then it has been lost, apparently, from half of the sites where it has ever been recorded (33 current sites; 32 lost sites). It is associated with mature birch (Betula) trees and may not be able to thrive on younger plants. Modern woodland management methods are, distressingly, usually based on botanical notions with scant regard for any species that is not large and flamboyant (birds and mammals). Birch is perceived as a `nursery` species and mature examples are removed from woodland as a deliberate policy - usually just as they are getting old enough to support this and other moth species.
