Scarce Prominent
Odontosia carmelita

(Esper, [1798]) 2010 / 71.023

General comments:
Very local resident.

The Scarce Prominent is probably under-recorded because of its early adult flight period - light traps are run in gardens, but at this early date people are not yet ready to venture forth into the wildwood. However, it is unlikely that its distribution will extend a great deal further north than the map already indicates, as a woodland habitat containing mature birch trees appears to be necessary for it to thrive. It should be specifically looked for in the Ruislip woodlands of MIddlesex, where it may still persist.
