General comments:
Widespread but local resident.

Foster (1937) listed only Sandridge [pre-1890], Bushey Heath (1901) and Broxbourne Common, 1922, suggesting that this may have been an uncommon species at that time. J. Bell recorded just one at Berkhamsted in 1913 (Foster, 1942) and Eric Classey noted it as 'not common' at Broxbourne in the late 1930s. A. L. Goodson took one at Tring in 1953 (now in the Roger S. Ferry Collection at Mill Green Museum). Today, lone individuals typically turn up in traps in suitable habitat over much of the county and occasionally, though not often, wander further afield and arrive in garden light traps. In Middlesex however, it is more Local and avoids the worst of the urban sprawl.
