General comments: Recently established resident - widespread and locally common.
In recent years there has been a significant expansion in the range of this species which has, traditionally, had its roots in the south-west of England and the south-west of Wales. It is unsurprising therefore that the first Hertfordshire reports are from the south-west, where it arrived in the Chorleywood area in 2010. There are several additional reports from that area in the years 2013 to 2015. After about this time, it has spread across the entire area - partly masked by its similarity in appearance to Scarce Footman plus a certain unwillingness on the party of some amateur moth hunters to accept that what they have is the rarer species!
