General comments:
Status uncertain. Perhaps extremely local resident. Perhaps vagrant or immigrant.

Confusion is likely in some cases with Garden Dart. There is a more or less general agreement that 'tritici' is a complex of more than one species, but opinions vary on how many. Clancy et al. (2012) claim three, stating that two (eruta and tritici sensu stricto) are present in Britain with the third (nigrofusca) apparently unrecorded here. Regrettably, Clancy et al. do not present any genitalia drawings; this is a problem because the drawings of genitalia that are available, in the third volume of Noctuidae Europaeae (Fibiger, 1997) are in part wrongly captioned. For the record, 25 'eruta' is correct, but 26 'crypta' is actually tritici and 27 'tritici' is in fact nigrofusca. We make no attempt here to segregate the Herts & Middlesex examples which we currently treat as a single species. I (Colin Plant) welcome specimens from here and elsewhere for detailed examination, including DNA barcoding.
