General comments:
Extremely local resident - declining drastically. Species of Conservation Concern.

Some examples of Garden Dart are easily confused with White-line Dart and extreme caution is required in identification. Of our 536 records, some 76% relate to the years 1999 or earlier (80%). The population of Garden Dart has been in free-fall in our area since the 1990s. There were signs of a slight recovery in the first decade of the current millennium and since then it occasionally presents itself in light traps, in single figures and at an extremely local level. Nevertheless, the overall trend is downwards, rendering this species extremely rare and certainly a Species of Conservation Concern in both Hertfordshire and Middlesex. At the national level there is a reported 97 per cent reduction in population since 1970. Our own data for Herts & Middlesex show a 57 percent decline in occupied sites since 1995 and a 72 percent decline since 1999.
