General comments:
Widespread resident.

Apart from possible confusion in the autumn with Radfords Flame Shoulder (Ochropleura leucogaster Freyer), the present species is immediately recognisable. It was 'Common in all districts' according to Foster (1937) and that remains the case at the end of 2022.

Recorded in 38 (93%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1892.
Last Recorded in 2024.
