General comments
Extremely local and numerically rare resident. Declining.

Up to the early 1980s, this was a widespread and common moth in our area and one that was expected in almost every garden light trap. During the late 1980s and early 1990s numbers declined drastically and many observers noted it as being freshly absent from site lists. By the end of 2006 it was regarded as extinct in the county (Plant, 2008). Happily, there have been just a few scattered records since then and the species is just about hanging on. In the next few years it will either recover properly or else become quite extinct here.
