General comments:
Widespread but local resident.

There is a great degree of variation in colour and pattern of the forewings, but this has not been documented for our area. A decline in numbers was noted from about 1980 onwards in parallel with the species disappearing from some traditional sites. However, by about 2018 numbers had returned to a near normal level and several of the empty sites had been re-colonised. A few old sites remain vacant at 2022 but moth numbers continue on an upward trend; these these variations are thought to be "normal".
