General comments:
Widespread but increasingly local. Perhaps declining.

Adults tend to fly later in the evening than most other "quaker" species and so, at a time of year when trapping necessarily starts fairly early in the evening, it might be under-recorded as a consequence of packing up too early. Examination of the records shows clearly that the bulk of the records are from garden traps and not from sites 'out and about', yet when one ventures out to such sites, and stays late enough, the moth is caught. The paucity of dots on the map may, therefore, reflect nothing more than post-winter lethargy on the part of moth catchers! Nevertheless, recent research has suggested that there has been a 76 per cent population decline of this species recorded at Rothamsted Light Traps since 1970. The importance of continuing to count and record all moth species cannot be over-emphasised.
