Cucullia absinthii

(Linnaeus, 1761) 2211 / 73.050

General comments:
Very local resident and also vagrant.

As a resident breeding species this moth is a feature of field edges and similar habitat features on the calcareous ground of North Herts. Outside our area to the east it is a feature of ruderal habitats in the Thames-side region. It may be overlooked and so the distinctive larvae should be searched for by beating the foodplant over a tray in the autumn, as they are far more readily found than the adults.

Recorded in 23 (56%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
Last Recorded in 2022.
