Immigrant. Vagrant.

The single modern record is of one in a garden light trap in Cowley (Uxbridge) on 12th August 2018. An adult bred in 1902 from a larva found on 'Monkshood' (Aconitum nepellum) at Hitchin by A. H. Foster. The moth was shown to A. E. Gibbs who commented (Gibbs, 1904a) that it was 'a remarkably light-coloured variety'. Gibbs continued by stating that he had been told by C. G. Barrett that this 'northern insect has been working south recently'. Foster (1914) repeats this record and adds 'Since this record Wightman of Letchworth has taken at least a dozen specimens in 1910 and following years on a wall in a village near Hitchin'. Foster (1937) repeats his own record and adds Waltham Cross, one specimen on a wall, undated (H. M. Edelsten). Gibbs, Foster and Edelsten were all entirely competent lepidopterists and it seem unlikely that all three would misidentify this species, which is rarely seen south-east of a line between the Severn Estuary and The Wash. Presumably, these represent vagrancy or immigration, including a gravid female that laid fertile eggs; there is no evidence to suggest that the moth was in any way a temporary resident.
