General comments:
Immigrant or vagrant.

This moth is a resident of the Breckland district of Suffolk and Norfolk and our reports all affect the north of Hertfordshire. This suggests vagrancy as an origin rather than immigration from Europe. Of course, this may not have always been the case. In the Walkern area, it was described as being 'frequent in the clover fields' during the 1940s by J. Birdsall (the first Hertfordshire record). It is tempting to suggest that this implies residency, but that is most unlikely, particularly in view of the vagueness of that statement. The 1940s included some very good migrant years, especially 1947. There are two other 1940s records, both strongly indicative of moths entering the area from further afield.
