General comments:
Widespread and common resident.

The larvae are said to feed on lichens in dense thickets rather than on exposed branches, where the humidity of the air is slightly raised. This implies that well-structured woodlands are more likely to support the moth than open habitats, though this may not be a hard and fast rule. Prior to 2006 we believed it to be single-brooded in our area but intensive recording since then has either proved this wrong or else it has switched to a bivoltine lifestyle.
