The first record of this species in the county was made at Bishops Stortford when one was taken by Clifford Craufurd on 9th July 1956 (Bell, 1958). A male was recorded by Ian Lorimer at Totteridge on 11th July 1967 (Plant, 1993) and then a single female was recorded on the Rothamsted Estate, in the Geescroft trap (trap 22), on 13th July 1985 (Riley, 1986). Interestingly, in a later review of records, Riley (1999) gives trap 26 as the source, though this scarcely matters a great deal. Another female was caught on a Herts Moth Group recording trip held at Patmore Heath, on 29th June 2002 (Plant, 2002a) finally Andrew Wood caught another female at Hertford, on 7th July 2002. There have been occasional singletons since then. Bilberry is extinct as a native wild plant in Hertfordshire; it was last recorded before 1960 from the Chipperfield area, and before that it was present at Oxhey Woods and a couple of other sites, but never common. Suggested alternative larval foodplants are dismissed by Plant (2002a).

Recorded in 10 (24%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
Last Recorded in 2016.
