General comments:
British examples of this species relate to subspecies hartwiegi (Reisser); the nominotypical subspecies is absent from Britain. Adults are rather uncommon at light, preferring the sugar patch, though when they do decide to come they often appear in large number.

Hertfordshire Notes:
Our earliest record is from Bricket Wood in 1887 (A. E. Gibbs) and all records relate to oak woodlands except for one in the light trap on the Rothamsted Estate at Harpenden during 1999. More sugaring and less light trapping would likely produce an increase in the records of this species.

Middlesex Notes: Extremely Local and numerically scarce, though probably overlooked by some as a worn geometer. The only modern records are from Trent Park in 2000 and Osterley Park in 2017. The historic records follow the line of the North London Woodlands and it is surely the case that trapping here in season will reveal the presence of this moth. That said, it may be absent from much of the county unless mature oak trees are present.
