General comments
Ubiquitous resident.

The Blood-vein is illustrated by J. F. Stephens (as Timandra amataria L.) from Hertford in Illustrations of British Entomology, 202 (published in 1829) and this provides our first record. An extreme form with the outer area of all four wings beyond the usual red line entirely purple-red was taken at Bishops Stortford on 24th August 2001 (now in my own collection); this was illustrated in British Journal of Entomology & Natural History 15(3/4): Plate 2.

Recorded in 37 (90%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1887.
Last Recorded in 2023.
