Widespread but very local resident.

Foster (1937) listed a small number of localities suggesting that this species was tolerably widespread in the county. That seems to be the case today, but the moth is evidently rather localised with several well-trapped sites failing to record it. This may be in part a result of inexperienced observers overlooking it, because whilst the adults do come to light they are not particularly strongly attracted and may settle in the vegetation some distance from the trap. A better way of recording it is to beat hedges and similar edge-habitat vegetation with a stick then net the adults as they fly out. It does seem to avoid truly urban areas.
