General comments:
Extinct resident.

Separation of this species from Red Twin-spot Carpet can be extremely difficult and has been discussed here under that species heading. The realisation that the Dark-barred Twin-spot Carpet was not the common and widespread species that we believed it to be came as a complete shock. Subsequent insistence by this County Moth Recorder that all records of both species always require confirmation by genitalia examination has proved to be sensible and has shown that apart from a couple at Ware, Herts in 2021 and one at Bishops Stortford, Herts in 2007, there are no records and that this species was evidently lost during the 1990s.

Recorded in 30 (73%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1887.
Last Recorded in 2023.
