(Thunberg, 1784) 1777 / 70.074

General comments:
Widespread resident.

Almost ubiquitous, but apparently absent from The City and stations east to the Isle of Dogs as well as other extremely urban zones. Frequently caught in high number, the July Highflier appears in a huge variety of colour forms, some of which cause great confusion amongst the inexperienced. The near ubiquitous nature of this moth suggests that it may utilise several foodplants, but at the same time anyone wishing to attract large numbers is best advised to put out a trap in a sallow carr.

Recorded in 33 (80%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1887.
Last Recorded in 2024.
