General comments:
Extinct.

Foster (1937) lists records from Northaw Great Wood in 1920, 1921 and 1922, from 'Bricket' in 1929, and from Ashridge. (Hodgson, 1939), elaborates on the latter record, stating that Rev. A. K. Hervey found a single moth at Ashridge on 25th May 1934. Two examples in the R. S. Ferry collection at Mill Green Museum, examined by me, are labelled as having been taken by Ferry at Knebworth in June 1947. Within the Broxbourne Woods complex, Baron Charles de Worms recorded one at 'Hoddesdon' in 1948 (almost certainly in Hoddesdonpark Wood) and more recently Jim Reid notes it in the scout camp area of Danemead Wood on 8 June 1972.

In Middlesex it was noted at Park Wood, Ruislip in 1955. This is our most recent record. The moth has been extinct in Essex since 1925 (Goodey, 2004) and the last confirmed Bedfordshire record was in 1956 (Arnold et al, 1989). Nationally, it has declined significantly, retreating westwards and northwards. It is not, currently, expected to be re-found in Herts or Middlesex.
