General comments
Extremely local resident.

Bradley (2000) considered the Ash-feeding British 'fraxinata Crewe', the Ash Pug, to be a form of innotata (Hufn.), the Angle-barred Pug, whose nominotypical form is confined to the south and south-east coast and feeds on Sea Buckthorn. Riley & (2003) treat fraxinata Crewe as a full species and in its synonymy lists 'innotata sensu Stephens, not Hufnagel'. Neither of these two works is a taxonomic view and both merely express the opinion of the authors without any justification being presented. However, Mironov (2003) in reviewing the European pugs, states that the Continental innotata and the British fraxinata are conspecific and that the correct name is innotata. This view is accepted here. The moth is rare and very local in Hertfordshire.
