General comments:
Widespread but local resident, perhaps declining.

As with most pugs, this species is likely to be under-recorded. Juniper is confined to a very few places in the west of the county, so garden plantings of ornamental conifers probably support the bulk of the Hertfordshire and Middlesex population. This may explain the relative scarcity of dots in north Hertfordshire where human residency is far less dense and the supply of foodplant potentially restricted. The moth also seems to avoid the densely urban areas of eastern Middlesex.
