General comments:
Widespread resident.

The melanic form nigrofulvata Collins is currently common in Hertfordshire - perhaps affecting 40 per cent of examples caught. Ian Lorimer noted that at Totteridge these melanic forms started to appear in 1969, but were still uncommon by 1979 (his trap was operated from 1954 to 1980). Unfortunately Ian retired to Orkney and so there is no later data from that site. There is no comparative data from any other Hertfordshire sites.
