Barred Umber
Plagodis pulveraria

(Linnaeus, 1758) 1903 / 70.223

General comments:
Extremely local resident / vagrant.

The scattered historic sites that record this moth only rarely coincide with sites that contain it today. An exception is from High Scrubs Wood in the Ashridge area, where Hodgson (1939) notes it was scarce and irregular and I caught a modern example on 10th May 2004 (a gap of 65 years). This species is unlikely to be misidentified, but might be overlooked is suitable habitats that have not been surveyed at the appropriate date.

Recorded in 15 (37%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1888.
Last Recorded in 2022.
