General comments
Extremely local resident.

Ancient, broad-leaved woodland with wide rides that contain the foodplant will support the Speckled Yellow, which flies in the afternoon sunshine, especially during May. Our records extend from the Ruislip woodlands in the west to the Lea Valley in the east, but the moth is so far absent from several of the components of the North London Woodlands chain between these two areas. In central Hertfordshire, the Bramfield Woods complex also supports the moth. It is likely to be hiding in one or two unexamined woodland areas, but overall it is not expected to be found in many other places where it is not already known.
