Early Moth
Theria primaria

(Haworth, 1809) 1960 / 70.282

General comments:
Widespread resident.

The Early Moth is far more common and widespread than many people realise. It is only weakly attracted to mv light, but is frequent at porch lights, in lit telephone boxes and at other tungsten-filament sources of light. It is easily found by torchlight at dusk along hedges containing Blackthorn and/or hawthorn. The patchy distribution reflects a degree of under-recording because the moth flies so early in the year. In years when the flight times overlap, care must be taken not to confuse Early Moth with late-flyijng Winter Moths.
