Straw Belle
Aspitates gilvaria

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) 1967 / 70.293

General comments:
Widespread resident.

There are three confirmed Hertfordshire records: The moth is illustrated from a 'Hertford' specimen in Stephens' Illustrations of British Entomology (published in 1829) and one was collected on Royston Heath [= Therfield Heath] in 1924 (G. V. Bull). An exceptionally late example was taken, surprisingly, in a garden light trap near Bricket Wood in October 2006; the date might suggest that this was an immigrant example.
