General comments:
Rare Immigrant.

Foster (1937) gives two records: 'Hitchin, 1874 (Tuke)' and 'East Barnet, one on Railway Bank near Oakleigh Park Station, 1892 (Ruhl)'. The railway line that passes through Oakleigh Park Station forms the vice-county boundary between Middlesex and Hertfordshire. This Barnet record is the same as that given in Entomologist : 223 and mentioned by Plant (1993) in Larger moths of the London Area). It is, however, apparently not the same as that mentioned by A. E. Gibbs in his first annual report as Hertfordshire Lepidoptera Recorder (Transactions of the Hertfordshire Natural History Society and Field Club : 195) where he records the capture of one at Southgate, by Mr R. Dymond. Allan (1950) lists one taken by F. R. Browning at Hockerill Training College in Bishops Stortford on 10th June 1945 and Bell (1952) lists another taken at Rickmansworth on 15 August 1949 by M. A. Salmon, the latter also noted in the records held by the Ruislip & District Natural History Society.
