General comments:
Recently established resident, now ubiquitous and abundant.

This species is now well-established in the area and is the species most often reported by non-'mothers'. The first modern Hertfordshire records were in August 2009 from Croxley Green and Ware. The only older county record was a single example noted at a garden in North Road, Stevenage in August 1934 by C. H. Tindall-Lucas (Foster, 1937). In Middlesex, it was seen at Highgate Wood in 1986, but there were no more sightings until 2005 and this can be regarded as the start date for the current range expansion into Middlesex. The reasons for the sudden and massive range expansion are still largely obscure; many text books and web sites still list this moth as a rarity in the south-east!
