General comments:
Extinct resident.

The report of this mature oak woodland species as 'fairly plentiful' at Hodd Park, Hoddesdon, by G. V. Bull, given in Foster (1937) without a year, is the source of the mapped dot in TL 31 in Moths and Butterflies of Great Britain and Ireland volume 9. Bull contributed records to Foster after 1902, so the record relates to the early twentieth century, but we can be no more precise than that. There is also a further record for the broader Broxbourne Woods complex, from Hertford Heath in 1940 by D. Lees (BRC recording card submitted to the Biological Records center at Monks Wood. Later (Foster, 1942) there is a report of two on Northchurch Common in 1938, reported by J. Bell. Although initially seeming to be unlikely localities, these do fit a general pattern of old records extending over a wide area of southern Britain and it is clear that the species has contracted its range considerably.
