A similar Iberian species, Noctua tirrenica Biebinger, Speidel & Hanigk, has recently spread into southern France and as climate change progresses could conceivably migrate north, although it may take several years to reach us. Both sexes resemble our female in colour and the two are only reliably separated by characters of the genitalia.
