During 2006, the Feathered Gothic was included on a list of species that had undergone a significant decline in Britain - its population having fallen in Rothamsted Light Traps by 90 per cent since 1970. Numerical data for Hertfordshire does not extend far enough back to make comparisons with the national situation, but an overall appraisal suggests that this trend is not reflected in this county, where the moth is local and uncommon, but it has always been so. In 2022, it is widespread and relatively likely to appear in moth traps across Hertfordshire, though it does seem genuinely scarce in Middlesex.
