General comments:
Widespread but local resident.

The Pine Beauty is listed by J. F. Stephens for Hertford, April 1810, in Illustrations of British Entomology (published in 1829) - a record claimed by Durrant (1888) and repeated by Gibbs (1905) to be the first British occurrence of the species. Today it is regarded as a pest species by those who regard conifer plantations as desirable and the population may vary considerably from year to year.
