General comments:
Extremely local resident.

Foster (1941) adds this species to the county list from 'Ware (Gerard)', but the acceptability of Gerard's records is highly questionable, and this one is rejected. Our only valid record is, therefore, that from July 1970, when Jim Reid found a single larva on Verbascum thapsus in a disused chalk pit at Howe Green, Essendon, as well as several Mullein Shark Shargacucullia verbasci larvae; the adult was reared. In 2023, it is restricted to a very small area of chalkland habitat in the wider vicinity of Hexton Chalk Pit (precise locality withheld until we can find it at more than one place). An adult at light at Bengeo, Hertford on 9th July 2007 (Andrew Wood) was presumably a wanderer?
