General comments:
Widespread and common resident.

The phenomenal spread of this formerly extremely rare species across the south-east of England, from a starting point on the shingle beaches of Kent and Sussex, remains poorly documented. Our data show a clear south to north spread across Middlesex in the period from 2000 to 2006 and then up into Hertfordshire from 2006 onwards with most of North Hertfordshire conquered by 2010. The direction is at odds with that demonstrated by other recent colonists such as Euplagia quadripunctaria, Craniophora ligustri and Cryphia algae. During 2015, I found fully grown larvae on Purple Toadflax Linaria purpurea plants growing on the living roof of my house extension in Bishop's Stortford in the east, but the more expected native Yellow Toadflax Linaria vulgaris is also used by the larvae.
