Merveille du Jour
Griposia aprilina

(Linnaeus, 1758) 2247 / 73.224
=Dichonia aprilina

General comments:
Widespread but local resident.

Prior to the advent of light trapping, this was a scarce moth in Hertfordshire, but when the usefulness of light was realised, records soon increased. The conclusion must be that the moth has always been moderately common in the county. Isolated oak trees are as capable of supporting larvae as those in a woodland setting and this probably explains the presence of the moth on most garden lists.

Recorded in 31 (76%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1887.
Last Recorded in 2024.
