General comments:
Extremely local resident. Extending its range.

First recorded in Britain in 2011, the Black-spotted Chestnut has been recorded at a handful of sites in our area (and in adjacent counties) and repeat capture over the years indicate it is resident at most of these. It is expanding its range - perhaps slowly, or perhaps just a hard moth to find that is already more widely established than we think! It enters light traps, but is more frequent on posts and walls nearby the next morning. It is most active in December, but as yet is not recorded from Ivy flowers or artificial "sugar" patches. It is thought to be most active around midnight, and so is rarely recorded by "torching".
