Lunar Underwing
Anchoscelis lunosa

(Haworth, 1809) 2270 / 73.193
=Omphaloscelis lunosa

General comments:
Widespread resident.

Lunar Underwing is one of the most numerous moths of the autumn and catches per trap can number in excess of 50 per night on favourable dates. The adult occurs in a range of colour forms though these tend to fall into just three categories - pale fawn, mid-brown and dark blackish brown. Pale fawn and dark brown varieties occur in more or less equal numbers, but the mid-brown types, in which the longitudinal veins are often the same colour as the rest of the wing, seems to be far less common.

Recorded in 35 (85%) of 41 10k Squares.
