General comments:
Vagrant.

Four examples of the Silver Hook were taken at Harpenden in 1948 by C. B. Williams, according to Fryer (1950). In this same report, Fryer comments that he had thought the species already to be on the county list on the strength of his own recollection of examples by the Shafford Bridge across the River Ver, but regrettably he does not give a date, nor even a year, though some evidence points to it having been 1930. However, Riley (1999) in summarising records from the Harpenden Estate, differs by stating that four examples were caught there in two different traps during 1947, with only one in 1948 and one more in 1970. There are no other records. All of the Harpenden records are surely vagrants, but the vague reference to Shafford Bridge, at a time when the habitat would likely have been quite suitable, might suggest a remnant breeding population.
