Spiny Bollworm
Earias biplaga

(Walker, 1866) 2419 / 74.0121

General comments:
Accidental import.

Noted at Buckingham Palace in 1964, shortly after a state visit by a Kenyan delegation. The moth was unkindly (and quite unofficially) awarded the colloquial name of "Kenyata's Beard" - suggesting that it had arrived hidden in the President's facial hair! A second example was noted near Heathrow Airport in 1979.

Retained Specimen / Photograph will be Required.

Recorded in 2 (5%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1964.
Last Recorded in 1979.
