General comments:
Immigrant. Possibly an extremely local resident.

Until very recently indeed this was an extremely infrequent immigrant that rarely made it past the south coast. However, in recent years it has become established as a resident in Dorset and elsewhere so that Herts and Middlesex moths may be wanderers from these population rather than primary immigrants. In our two counties, single examples were recorded, and then only rarely, in some years up to 2017, but in 2019 we recorded 8, and then from 2020 to 2022 inclusive numbers were in double figures each year. Almost all of these are considered to be primary immigrants. However, in 2020 larvae were found in Essex just a couple of kilometres from Bishops Stortford. On 17th September 2021, four moths were caught together in an Aspen grove at Sandon, in north Hertfordshire (3 males, 1 female) in circumstances that might suggest that they were locally bred.
