General comments:
Extremely local and scarce resident. Declining.

Scattered sites on the chalk between Buckinghamshire in the west and Cambridgeshire in the east still support small populations. Although adults will come to light, daytime recording is more productive; the species may be slightly under-recorded but is nevertheless a rare find in our area and has certainly vanished from some sites. The Broxbourne record in the south-east, which was given by Boyd in his 1901 list for the Cheshunt area, is surely suspect and at best may relate to a vagrant, as do the singletons recorded in 1999 and 2000 in the light trap on the Rothamsted Estate at Harpenden. In Middlesex it is almost certainly extinct - reported only from Ruislip in 1940 and Brentford a few years earlier.
